A Word from our Chair of Governors

Welcome from Nina Lynch, Chair of Governors

I have been a parent governor at Southwood Infant School for over 5 years and have held the position of Chair of Governors for the past year. Our school is at the heart of our community and we are proud to make a difference to our pupils and their families; past, present and future.

The governing body is strong and supportive with a clear strategic vision. Together with our dedicated leadership team and staff, we believe that every child should be given every opportunity to achieve their very best. At Southwood we want all our children to have the confidence and enthusiasm to become lifelong learners. We strive to do this by generating a warm and caring atmosphere in which children can flourish and achieve their full potential.

One of my proudest moments was hearing in May 2016 that Ofsted had categorised our school as ‘Good’ overall and in every key inspection area. The report is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all the staff, leadership team and governors. The school is well placed to improve further and we continue to work hard to develop and implement a rigorous improvement plan.

School governors play a key role in raising school standards and monitoring performance. We contribute to important decisions covering issues such as policy making, site management, the school’s budget and the curriculum. If you have the enthusiasm and desire to make a difference and time to give to the role and to the school, perhaps you would like to join us?

You will find details of our Governors below. If you would like to contact us, please phone the school office on 01252 375 420.  Copies of the Full Governing Body minutes are available on request.
