Children Starting School In 2024

If you have a child due to start school in September 2024, please take a look at our new parent presentation slides.

Applications for a Year R place open on 1st November 2023 and close on 15th January 2023.

You will be notified on 16th April 2024 of your allocation, if you submit your application within the above deadline.

An email has been sent out with information about accepting the place at Southwood Infant School. This needs to be completed by Tuesday 30th April 2024. If you have not received this email or have any queries please contact the School Office.

We offer a series of events during the Summer Term, which take place in order to ensure a smooth transition into school:

• During the summer term, our Early Years teachers visit your child in their current setting (if they attend a local pre-school/nursery).
• Your child is invited to attend our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions, taking place on Wednesday 3rd and Wednesday 10th July 2024.
• During the 'Stay and Play' sessions, parents are invited to attend an information meeting taking place at the school. There is also a phonics/reading meeting taking place on Thursday 19th September.
• The week before they start school, your child’s class teacher offers a home visit.

Home visits will take place on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th September. Home visits enable us to get to know you and your child really well before they start school. 

Children will then start coming into school from Friday 6th September, starting with the morning only, then including lunchtime and then full time from Wednesday 11th September 2024.
